I've noticed a huge difference in MP between casting Blizzard and Meteor, not sure if it has been reported before (tried searching).

Now we know that Genesis, Meteor and Blizzard all consumes 3,500 MP to cast according to their individual skill description, however for Mages (I/L & F/P) there's an additional skill in 3rd job called Element Amplification where one consumes twice as much MP (200%) to have a boost in Magic Attack by 135% hence Meteor and Blizzard should both consume 7,000 MP each cast. However this is how it works currently in the server:

I/L Mage: Minus 3,500 MP per cast and unable to cast Blizzard when MP is < 7k
F/P Mage: Minus 7,000 MP per cast and unable to cast Meteor when MP is <7k

I've been playing F/P mage for a while now after a Bishop so the change from 3,500 MP for Genesis to 7,000 MP for Meteor was pretty significant. I kept dying at Petris often during my 12x-13x periods due to the huge MP cost + touch damage from Petris. Also you run out of pots pretty easily as well because of the double MP cost (1,500 Ales can last well over 4 hours on my Bishop whereas for F/P it lasts a little over an hour). But hey, that's how it works when you have Elemental Amplification so i didn't really think too much about it.

However it looks like this only applies to F/P Mages and not I/L Mages. I double-checked this with 2 other I/L mages (Iffy & Wolfix) since i don't own an I/L Mage and it looks like this 'bug' has been present for a long time now. They still do need 7k MP to cast Blizzard, it just minuses 3.5k instead.

I can see how this can easily be seen as a QQ thread since i'm the F/P here and the bug lies with I/L Mages giving them an 'added advantage' in one way or another, just thought i'd point it out regardless. It's not surprising people didn't realize this as I/L Mages tend to overlook the 'Element Amplification' skill while F/P Mages can only reason their 7k MP loss per Meteor by looking back at their 3rd job skill.

I'm losing 7,000 MP when casting I/L. Can you tell me the name of the character that is losing just 3,500MP?

Yeah, this has been reported in the past but it was brushed off as far as I can remember. I can confirm that it is still happening. I didn't realize that f/p mages weren't also benefitting from it.

Edit: matt, my character kettlebell is one of them. The skill has acted this way as long as I can remember and acts this way for all ice/lit mages that I'm aware of.

If memory serves me correctly, I think that one of the times it was brushed off by putting the blame on MP eater since the person was at ToT and the mobs apparently have a significant amount of MP.

Not sure if that info matters here though.

While you're there, try helming yourself and equipping the usual gear for I/L, doing things as a regular player maybe it will trigger the bug. Items that add certain stats (avoid, acc, speed) may trigger it? Also maybe try using a pet and auto pot :o

What @Narutard just said above may have to do with it too.

I'm just throwing things out there because I've noticed, especially in maplestory, random weird things can change the outcome even when completely unrelated lol.

Until i read this thread i had'nt realised this..

The 7K Min MP req. Is annoying enough as it is even with 3.5K cost, causing me to have to use a pot practically every 1-2casts depending on if i get hit or not.

If cost should really and will really be 7k, mages arent really effective until past level 15x and they have enough mp to cast bliz/meteor more than once...

    PS: RIP POTIONS! :(

Potions are cheap. You will still make money using a ginger ale after every cast of blizz/meteor, just less than you would before.

Well in my particular case this means the end of my character, a level 126 i/l mage.

I have little over 10k MP, and with 7k mp cost per cast, i will only be able to cast bliz once and then have 3k MP left, if i get hit by skele/petri then, i will be killed instantly.
This will make me unable to train and level normally w/o leeching till 140-150+

Im not complaining! because this thread is correct, with ele amp the cost of both meteor AND blizzard should be doubled.
There is nothing to be done about that as it is only fair.

Nonetheless i am somewhat forced to give up on my character now (only just got back 2 days ago, IRONY!) xD

Oh well, im off to grind my new character from 30 to 50 without cpq, see you in a month! :)

I doubt you'll have to leech from 120 to 140 as an arch mage after the change. If you're really scared of dying to Petris you can always go to mobs that have slightly lower touch dmg. I think I was at WS on my mage until I could 2 or 1 hit ulu 2. Lvling on ulu2 when you can 1 hit is still a fine alternative until you get some more mana to take the hits from Petris. (which should easily be doable with 11-12k hp without having to fear death)

With 3k mp you can tank a hit for over 4k easy, are you using blue pots?

I found myself dying pretty often at Petris as well during the 120s period. Then i realized Ulu 2's a great place to train at least from Level 120 to 130. From 130 its manageable at Petris as long as your Auto MP is set to 90% such that you'll use an Ale immediately after casting Meteor each time. The only instance this fails is during lag spikes, which even now (at my 17x) kills me at times. Sure it burns a lot of pots, but bear in mind this is what all the F/P players went through for a very long time, and now a new change for the I/L players.

    I know i know :) like i said i am not mad,
It was an unfair advantage for I/L which was easily overlooked, most I/L players who are high level by now should be considered lucky they had this, it is only fair that this will be corrected.

To everyone else, thank you for the comments/tips ! ^.^

Bumping this, because i am not sure you are aware that it's still not fixed, at least for i/l mages.

I realised this bug when i've just advanced to 3th job. Element Amplification now Lv.13( use 165%MP, 118% Magic ATT), the problem is when I cast Thunder Bolt( 40MP basic cast), the MP is required to consume must be 40 x 165% = 66 MP. However, it still costs 40MP. Then i think that Element Amplification is bugged though this is the very important skill. I also check the damage, but seems not increase. I'm confused in way i chose I/L.
